Asian-Inspired Turkey Lettuce Wraps

These vibrant lettuce wraps are the perfect quick weeknight meal. Lean ground turkey is sautéed with aromatic garlic, ginger, and a savory-sweet glaze, then tucked into crisp butter lettuce for a healthy, satisfying crunch.

From My Kitchen

The inspiration for this recipe comes from a desire to blend fast, high-protein cooking with the complex flavors of East Asian cuisine. In the farm kitchen, we prioritize efficiency without sacrificing depth of flavor, and ground turkey proved to be the perfect lean canvas for a ginger-soy glaze.

I remember the first time I made these for a busy group of friends - the smell of sesame oil and sizzling garlic instantly filled the air, and within fifteen minutes, we were all gathered around the counter, assembling our own wraps. It's since become a staple for those evenings when I want something light and nourishing that still feels like a gourmet treat.

Ingredients

Turkey Filling

  • 1 lb extra-lean ground turkey
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 red bell pepper, finely diced
  • 4 green onions, sliced (whites and greens separated)
  • 1 head butter lettuce (bibb or boston), leaves separated and washed

Sauce

  • 3 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp sriracha (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

1

In a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat, brown the ground turkey until fully cooked, breaking it into small crumbles as it sears.

2

Add the diced onion, minced garlic, and freshly grated ginger to the skillet. Sauté for 3–5 minutes until the onion is soft and fragrant.

3

Whisk together the soy sauce, hoisin, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and sriracha. Pour the sauce over the turkey mixture and stir well to coat every crumble.

4

Remove from heat and stir in the sliced green onions and chopped cilantro. This adds a punch of brightness and fresh farmhouse flavor.

5

Spoon the warm turkey filling into crisp lettuce leaves. Garnish with shredded carrots and sesame seeds for extra crunch and color.

Shannon’s Kitchen Tips

  • Lettuce Selection: Butter or Bibb lettuce works best for flexible, cup-shaped wraps that won't crack.
  • Meal Prep: You can prepare the turkey filling up to 2 days in advance. Simply reheat and assemble when ready to eat!
  • Heat Control: Start with a small amount of sriracha and adjust based on your spice preference.
  • Leftover Hack: If you run out of lettuce, the filling is delicious served over jasmine or cauliflower rice.

Make It Your Own

🍗

Swap ground turkey for ground chicken or pork for a different flavor profile.

Switch Protein

🥗

Stir in diced water chestnuts or sliced bamboo shoots for extra texture.

Add Crunch

Pack in Veggies

🍚

Serve the turkey filling over fluffy jasmine or cauliflower rice as a hearty bowl.

Storage Tips

Store the turkey filling in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to four days. For the best experience, keep the lettuce leaves separate in a resealable bag with a paper towel to maintain crispness. Reheat the turkey filling gently in a skillet or microwave until warmed through before assembling your fresh wraps.
